Nightmare Before Christmas Bullet Journal Theme

For my first actual month doing a full theme in my bullet journal I decided to have a Nightmare Before Christmas bullet journal theme. I love the movie and Halloween is one of my favorite holidays. It made sense for me to pick and try my hand at this theme.

Overall I’m pretty happy with everything about this theme and how it turned out in my bullet journal. It took me a bit of time to figure out how I was going to incorporate the theme and Halloween into each of my spreads but all together it’s pretty awesome.

Before we get started here is a list of my recommended supplies.

From time to time the Scribbles that Matter Journal is sold out on Amazon. When this happens third party sellers will try to sell the journal for an insane amount of money. DO NOT BUY THAT! Scribbles that Matter should be back in stock soon. My second favorite journal is the Essentials Dot Matrix, though I warn you the pages on this one are thinner and bleeding and shadows show up on opposite sides. However, it's a decent cheap journal if you are in a pinch and just want to get started.

October Monthly Setup

Nightmare Before Christmas Monthly Spread

First up, we are going to take a look at what I did for my cover page and monthly spread.

October Cover Page Nightmare Before Christmas Theme

For my very first time I decided I was going to try to use watercolors in my journal. I won’t be doing that again. I’m much better with drawing and painting on canvas than I am trying to work with water colors in a journal. Still the point is made.

Update 9-26: I wasn’t super pleased with the way the water color turned out so while I intend to continue practicing my water color technique I used brush tip markers to turn my cover page into a van Gogh like sky.

Month At A Glance Layout with Quote

Nightmare Before Christmas Month At A Glance

I’m really happy with my month at a glance spread though. Instead of doing a large goal spread like last month I have a small section in my month at a glance.

Nightmare Before Christmas Mood Tracker

Jack Skellington Mood Tracker

I got a little creative this month with my mood tracker. I am not filling in how I felt with the different emotions of Jack. It’s fitting for the theme and for the mood tracker. It was super easy to create all the little circles fo the faces with a stencil too.

Nightmare Before Christmas Habit Tracker

Nightmare Before Christmas Habit Tracker

For my habit tracker I decided to use the little ingredient jars we see when Sally is making her potion. Before I start tracking I will figure out which one goes with the habits I am tracking. I simply highlight the date if I did it or leave it alone if I didn’t complete the task. I might add more to this in the coming weeks so make sure you follow me on Instagram for any updated pictures.

This tracker was hand drawn with pencil and then outlined and colored in with the Crayola Super tips. I used the light purple for the details on each jar and the gray to color over top. It worked out nicely.

Brain Dump with Oogie Boogie Doodle

Oogie Boogie Brain Dump

Something I am really missing in my September spread is my brain dump. It was always nice having a special place for ideas, new blog posts, and things I want to schedule at some point in the future. So in October I decided to add a Brain Dump page again and put an Oogie Boogie doodle with it.

Gratitude Log with Zero Doodle

Zero Nightmare Before Christmas Gratitude Log

Zero is my favorite character so he’s featured twice in this months layout. This is the first time that I tried using a modern calligraphy with the Crayola Supertips. It didn’t turn out too bad though I definitely need to continue practicing. The gratitude log is a must have so that I can stay focused on the things that I am grateful for.

Weekly Spreads

I’m doing something a little bit differently this month with my weekly spreads. Instead of one page they are two and I am using them as a way to plan out my daily to do lists. I still have spaces for daily journaling on following pages after each weekly spread.

I’ve added meal planning to my weekly spreads and weekly goals. The note spot will be filled with any miscellaneous things that I need to keep an eye on during the week.

Bloody Weekly Spread

Using a fineliner pen I added little drops on the bottoms of the letters and numbers. I was pleasantly surprised with how this turned out.

Potion Bubbles Weekly Spread

I used a compass to draw out the circles for the days at 3 inches in diameter. The smaller purple bubbles were drawn at 2 inch diameter. Then I hand drew in little bubbles as accents.

Zero and Pumpkins Weekly Spread

This was a super simple spread I did do a bit of water color on the pumpkins and then outlined in the same color with the Super Tips.

Jack Skellington Weekly Spread

This was super simple to do. I used the compass to draw a soft outline for the head so I had a great starting point. I then free handed the curves by the temples, the eyes, nose and mouth. Outlined it all and filled it in. Then I marked off the days, notes, goals, and meals sections with yellow and use a black super fine to write the days.

Black and Grey Circle Weekly Spread

I did the same thing with the bubbles but put a circle shadow design for the background. This was another super easy spread that took little time to do.

Daily Journals

Daily Setup

I took 4 pages after each weekly spread and split them up to give me places to journal each day. They all use the same corresponding colors as the weekly spread. I also included a Week In Review so I could write out how I felt about the week and what more I could do the next week to achieve my goals.

October Layout

While I’ve been bullet journaling for a while and always admired the talent of my fellow bullet journalers, I never tried an actual theme. I will say, I am out of practice with my art and I hope that with practice every day I can try to tackle this theme again next October.
